What happens in Vegas? Well, every other April, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ (ISRI) Annual Convention & Expo does. And this month, luck was on the side of scrap recyclers from across the country when a rise in ferrous scrap prices also happened as many were headed to the show at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
After a rocky start this year and with predictions for a better April, players in the U.S. Ferrous scrap markets took a gamble. They made their buys and interrupted their busiest time to attend the ISRI show — which paid off. According to Recycling Today's blog on the event and timely rebound, "Ferrous scrap gained some $50 in value as recyclers gathered in Las Vegas for the ISRI 2016 Convention & Exposition." And, the recycling industry’s largest gathering brought together about 300 exhibitors and 3,000 attendees. There was no better time or place for good cheer and the good company of professionals who came from around the world and all facets of the recycling industry to attend the always-anticipated ISRI event.
Look who we caught up with at the show:
Shara Turley with Jeff Rau, Dennis Gardner and Danny Drogemuller of LKQ
PeggySue Harper with Freddy Cohen of Alpert & Alpert Iron & Metal, Inc
While luck was on the scrap recycling industry’s side with the ferrous price boost during the event, there’s speculation on if this rebound is here to stay. We'll have to wait and see. One thing's for sure, Jeff Jerdonek of Ferrous Processing and Trading did not go home empty-handed. He was the winner of our iPad giveaway. Congratulations, Jeff!
